Throughout my years of creating social media strategy and being a consumer of social media, I have learned that the most important thing you can do is to create value.
I am a huge proponent of making social media an education resource. People should be able to hop on social media and learn something. They should feel validated, seen, and heard.
I have used the Career Connections Center’s social media to educate our students. Our content serves two purposes: to educate and to promote our events. I like to measure how well we are doing with our shares and saves.
Take a look at the social media strategy I have created. I along with a part-time marketing assistant have created content for our the center.
Marketing Process Presentation
People come and go at workplace and with that comes education people on the marketing process. I created a presentation to help folks understand how I work and how the team at Division of Student Life Marketing and Strategic Communications works.
Social Media Toolkit Creation
Spreading information across campus can be a huge task, but toolkits make it much easier. Creating a toolkit which contains graphics and social copy can help communicators post correct information on their platforms. I have created various toolkits for a different events. With the help of the Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications of the Division of Student Life, these toolkits were sent to campus communicators.
Gator Career Consultants
The UF Career Connections Center started a program for alumni to help them engage with students on campus. We created a campaign to recruit Gator Career Consultants. We spread the work via:
Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Alumni Association Newsletter, and Gator Club social media. To be able to do this, we created a toolkit for the Alumni Association and Gator Clubs to use.
In the first week we got over 70 registrations to become a Gator Carer Consultant. Now in 2022 we have over 300 Gator Career Consultants.
Reddit
Where are our students? I believe they are on Reddit. This year, I started to promote large events on r/ufl, the University of Florida’s unofficial subreddit. It has been a great success.
Intel Takeover Event:
Last minute, Intel signed up to takeover the Career Connections Center. We had a short amount of time to inform students about this amazing opportunity. Recruiters asked us to share links for students to apply to jobs. The caveat was the students needed to apply to jobs a week from announcement, and a week from the vent. Recruiters were looking to interview students during the takeover.
Results: We had a packed house with students and Intel had a schedule full of interviews. They told us that they had filled all their positions and were going to come back next year.
Career Showcase:
Posting about Career Showcase and also posting Ask Me Anythings proved to be a great opportunity for the UF Career Connections Center. Students are engaged with us on seem to prefer questions on Reddit.
