Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and Vine: The Future of Social Media

Did you that 5 Vines are tweeted every second? I’m not surprised by that stastics because even my Facebook feed is filled with hilarious Vine videos. What is surprising is that most Vines are sent between 10-11am, aren’t people at work or school? Vine even has been used to spread news as it is happening.

But we can’t forget the grandfather of video social media, Google’s YouTube.  When I started watching YouTube, I was just amused at watching people in their daily lives. I was immediately addicted to it. Nowadays YouTube has become more than a novelty, it is how we listen to music, learn about products, share news, watch music videos. You can even rent a movie on YouTube now.  YouTube has replaced the TV for me. I can watch YouTube on my phone, TV and Xbox.

But YouTube now depends heavily on a subscriber based website rather than a video based website.  YouTube users are sent suggestions on videos they should watch and this brings more views to the producer, which in return makes more money for Google.

Pinterest is always a great place for a business to have a presence as well. When I tried Pinterest for the first time, it felt like a grass roots initiative to get users to start using it heavily. It was new and it felt like fancy version of Reddit. Soon businesses jumped on board to advertise their products.  It is great to outlet to interact with customers,, create a great relationship, and to help build a brand. The best thing about this is that Research from consumer electronics giant Sony shows that an embedded "Pin-It" button gets 10-times more clicks than Twitter's "Tweet This" button. And Pinterest users spend a lot of time on the site, averaging 98 minutes a month.

Do you use Youtube to watch reviews before purchasing things? The new data could indicate that consumers are more willing to watch videos about potential purchases now more than ever before.

Do you prefer more visual social media networks or more text heavy social networks? Explain why.

Do you Vine or are you just a lurker?
